Dr Raj Maturi

Raj K. Maturi, M.D., F.A.S.R.S. is a nationally recognized clinician and surgeon. He founded Retina Partners Midwest, P.C. in 1999. Dr. Maturi completed New York University School of Medicine with honors in 1993, followed by residency in ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine in 1997. He completed another two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Iowa in 1999, where he received the prestigious Heed Fellowship. He is one of fewer than ten surgeons worldwide who have performed suprachoroidal to subretinal delivery in the FOCUS study for macular degeneration. He has most recently been the chairman for two large international diabetic retinopathy studies. Additionally, he has been the principal investigator in over 100 research studies and has authored over 75 academic publications.

Stephen J. Saxe, M.D., F.A.C.S. served for twelve years as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, training residents and fellows in all aspects of medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. Dr. Saxe completed his ophthalmology residency in 1996 at the Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University in Detroit, where he served as Chief Resident. This was followed by a two-year fellowship in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina at the Baylor College of Medicine and Retina Vitreous of Texas in Houston under the tutelage of world-renowned vitreoretinal surgeon Dr. H. Michael Lambert. Dr. Saxe joined Retina Partners Midwest, P.C. in 2017 and is involved in the comprehensive medical and surgical management of all vitreoretinal diseases. He has authored and contributed to a number of academic papers and actively participates in multiple ongoing clinical research studies.

Dr. Raj Maturi

Ankur M. Shah, M.D., F.A.S.R.S. graduated with honors from Northwestern University School of Medicine in 2006. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of California in San Diego, serving as chief resident. He then completed a medical retina fellowship (one year) at Northwestern University Medical Center and a surgical retina fellowship at the University of Chicago (two years). Dr. Ankur Shah has been in practice over a decade. He has participated in multiple clinical research studies as a principal investigator and is welcoming our patients in Carmel, Greenwood, and Kokomo.

Denis Jusufbegovic, M.D.

Dr. Denis Jusufbegovic is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon with broad and extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of both common and highly complex retinal diseases. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed his ophthalmology residency, followed by a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the same institution. He completed an additional fellowship in ocular oncology in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Jusufbegovic served for nearly a decade as Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he made major contributions to academic medicine, clinical research, and surgical training. During his tenure, he established and directed the Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship Program—the only such fellowship in the state of Indiana—training and mentoring medical students, ophthalmology residents, and vitreoretinal fellows.

Dr. Jusufbegovic’s clinical and research interests span a wide spectrum of retinal disorders, including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, vascular retinal diseases, inherited retinal diseases, macular diseases, uveitis, and ocular trauma. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has lectured nationally on surgical innovations in retinal disease and surgery. His excellence as both a clinician and educator has been recognized through multiple institutional and professional awards, including the Indiana University Trustee Teaching Award and the Department of Ophthalmology Professor of the Year Award.

After a decade at Indiana University, Dr. Denis Jusefbegovic begins practice (Jan 1, 2026) with Retina Partners Midwest located at Midwest Eye Institute.

Clinical Expertise and Services

Dr. Jusufbegovic provides comprehensive diagnosis, management, and surgical care for the full spectrum of diseases affecting the macula, retina, and vitreous. His expertise encompasses both routine and highly complex retinal disorders, with a focus on restoring and preserving vision through advanced microsurgical and medical therapies.

Areas of Clinical Focus: Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Vein and Artery Occlusions, Macular Holes and Epiretinal Membranes, Retinal Tears and Detachments, Retinal Dystrophies and Degenerations, and Inflammatory and Infectious Retinal Diseases.

Diagnostic Capabilities: State-of-the-art retinal imaging and functional testing, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT and OCT-A), Widefield Fluorescein and Indocyanine Green Angiography (OPTOS UWF), Fundus Autofluorescence, Digital Fundus Photography, B-scan Ultrasonography, and Multifocal and Full-Field Electroretinography (ERG).

Surgical and Procedural Expertise: Dr. Jusufbegovic performs a broad range of advanced retinal surgeries, including vitrectomy for macular disorders, complex retinal detachment repair, scleral buckle and pneumatic retinopexy, submacular and vitreous procedures, retinal laser photocoagulation, and cryotherapy. He also has extensive experience with intravitreal pharmacologic therapies, including anti-VEGF and corticosteroid injections, and laser-based treatments for diabetic and vascular retinal diseases.
